"Dream much, Will.. ?"
Brian Cox - the original Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
Cox presents us with a more subtle Lecter, when compared the more famous performances from Oscar™ Winner Sir Anthony Hopkins. Yet it is the Manhunter Lecter who is by far the most chilling in my opinion. I have never heard Thomas Harris pass judgement on who he felt delivered the more accurate Hannibal (in relation to his source material), but having read both Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs and now Hannibal, I would be surprised if he was critical of either actor, as they both give strong and memorable performances.

Originally, it was rumoured that British Actor Tim Roth ('Rob Roy', 'Reservoir Dogs') was approached to take over as Lecter. That speculation proved to be just that however, and Hopkins has gone on to reprise the roll of Lecter in the harshly reviewed "Hannibal" (2000) and more recently the big-budget remake of Manhunter - Brett Ratner's impressive "Red Dragon" (2002)
