"Warning : Exposing The Truth Can Be Hazardous".
Michael Mann's "The Insider" is a controversial
tobacca industry drama, starring Al Pacino,
Russell Crowe, Diane Venora, Michael Gambon and Christopher
Plummer.
Why 'controversial'?
Well, at the time of it's U.S. release in 1999, the film
was been generally well received by the movie critics and
cinema goers, but at the same was also
widely criticised by the people on which the film is based.
Stories of exaggerated circumstances throughout
and even some 100% fabricated scenes have been the most
frequent lines of complaint. Screenwriters Richard Roth
and Michael
Mann have defended
these changes, pointing out that all of the events in the
film *did* take place but perhaps at differing times and
at alternative locations.
Despite earning a record number of Oscar® nominations for a Michael Mann project, the film ended
up with none at all.
Trivia..
- The French title of the film is: "Revelations".
- Most of the promotional material for the film was based on the design of a cigarette packet.
